Tuition Assistance and Benefits for Veterans

As a Veteran, several benefits and programs are available to help you pay for tuition and other costs. We are here to help you navigate your options.

GI Bill® Benefits

STRAC Institute is approved through the State Approving Agency in North Carolina and Rhode Island to provide *GI Bill® benefits. You may be eligible if you served on active duty after September 10th, 2001. Learn more and see if you qualify for Post-9/11 GI Bill® (Chapter 33) benefits.

  1. Log in to your eBenefits account online. If you do not have an account, click “Register” in the upper right-hand corner.
  2. Once logged in, click “Apply” located in the banner at the top.
  3. Click on “Education and Training”.
  4. Click on “Education Benefits
  5. You will be prompted to enter your personal information such as your social security number, education, military history, and other basic data to complete the application.
  6. It will take approximately 30 days for approval of your GI Bill® benefits. If you are approved, you will receive a Certificate of Eligibility (COE), or award letter, in the mail. Bring this to the VA certifying official at STRAC Institute to enroll.

 

If you attend school under the GI Bill®, you may also be eligible to receive a monthly stipend.

Veteran Readiness and Employment Benefits (VR&E)

You may be eligible to use VR&E Chapter 31 benefits instead of your GI Bill® if you have a service-connected disability that limits your ability to work or prevents you from working.

  1. Log in to your eBenefits account online. If you do not have an account, click “Register” in the upper right-hand corner.
    1. Note: your eBenefits account will need to be upgraded to “Premium Access” to apply for VR&E.
  2. Once logged in, click “Apply” located on the  banner at the top.
  3. Click on “Education and Training”.
  4. Click on “Veterans Readiness and Employment Benefits”.
  5. Click on “Apply for Chapter 31 Benefits
  6. You will then be brought to a screen where you will have to update your contact information such as your mailing address, email address, and phone number.
  7. Then click “Apply” at the bottom. After your application is submitted, it takes approximately 30 days or more to be processed.
  8. Once your application is processed, you’ll receive a scheduled appointment to meet with a Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment Counselor (VRC).
  9. Once you have an appointment scheduled, call (888) 754-1383 and speak to a STRAC Career Advocate (CA) who will work directly with you to prepare you for this appointment and guide you through the process.
  10. After you meet with the VRC, they will determine your eligibility for VR&E benefits.

 

If you attend school using VR&E benefits, you may also be eligible to receive a monthly stipend.

Veteran Rapid Retraining Assistance Program (VRRAP)

If you’re an unemployed veteran without educational benefits, your STRAC tuition may be covered under the newly passed VRRAP, which provides up to twelve months of tuition, fees and a housing allowance to eligible Veterans. VRRAP offers education and training for high-demand jobs to Veterans who are unemployed because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

To qualify, you must be:

  • A Veteran between 22 and 67 years of age
  • Unemployed due to the COVID-19 pandemic
  • Not eligible for GI Bill® or VR&E benefits
  • Not enrolled in a Federal or State jobs program
  • Not receiving VA disability compensation because you are unable to work
  • Not receiving unemployment compensation including enhanced benefits under the CARES Act

 

If you are interested in attending STRAC Institute, you must apply promptly for these benefits, as enrollment is limited to 17,250 slots nationwide.
